Joe's Shanghai xiao long bao — Manhattan Chinatown staple

Chinatown

Went for the soup dumplings. Skin is thin, filling is hot, be careful the first bite. Around $16 for eight. Cash-friendly. Long line at peak lunch, weekday off-peak is easier.

Joe's is one of the more consistent XLB spots in the neighborhood over the years.

Consistency is genuinely rare here — a lot of places have slid.

Pork-crab XLB combo is a good order if it's on the menu that day.
